Artificial Intelligence project by Amedeo Modigliani Foundation

Artificial Intelligence project by Amedeo Modigliani Foundation

The Amedeo Modigliani Foundation launches a project capable of revolutionizing the attribution of the works of Amedeo Modigliani.

In the panorama of the artist’s catalogs and attributions there has always been a murky scenario built on the underworld and in many cases by the incompetence of the so-called “experts”.

Artificial Intelligence is able to revolutionize all certification activities based on scientific experts and analyzes that often turn out to be unreliable and incorrect.

Thanks to the support of leading public institutions, the Foundation is launching a procedure for an increasingly effective combination of algorithms to recognize fake works from original ones. The system will be able to ascertain the authorship of the work by recognizing the type of brushstroke on the canvas, the contours of the stroke; the pressure of the brush during the work, the shape of the brushstroke, and in general the touch of the author.

Thanks to the acquired data and neural networks, modern machines can read every peculiarity of the artist; an important database will be created only from recognized collections of undoubted origin and from museum works.

There are already studies by other authors showing that the proposed methodology can classify individual traits with an accuracy of 70% -90% and for sketches with an accuracy of more than 80%. The goal that we propose is to raise these percentages in order to have absolute values of validity and to make the market for fakes and counterfeiters succumb to the work of Amedeo Modigliani.
